Opinions on Movies and Perfumery

An Introduction

I think it might be best if I set out a goal for what I want this blog to be. That seems like a fitting point to start the ‘first post’ that wordpress wants me to add. Before I go on to discuss either of these, I will note that I am not trained in any way to critique or discuss these subjects, and have merely taken a hobbyist’s interest in both.

In all likelihood, none of these posts will be particularly long, but I will aim to make them relatively comprehensive. They may be meandering and sometimes go off-topic within a post, but I’d like to think that adds to the charm of my writing.

That said, let me explain.

Movies

I’ve loved movies since I was a kid, starting off watching them with my father and progressing (albeit slowly) onto watching them alone. I was always more into books, but movies have slowly become a large part of my life. I am not a film critic, I have little understanding of the technological mastery that goes into filmmaking, but I do enjoy watching movies. At the end of the day, isn’t that what movies are made for, anyway?

Within this blog, I’ll be discussing my most recent watches, which can also be found over on my letterboxd, although the reviews there are normally one to two words and intended only for my friends. I will admit, I do have some odd takes on movies, but that’s life.

Perfume

Although perfume is a newer love of mine, I’ve fallen head over heels for the world of scents and perfumery. Part of this is probably because some smells are distinctly comforting (like this Hugo Boss aftershave my dad has worn since the 90s.

My preferences tend towards unisex scents, but I have been known to use scents tailored to both men and woman as well. In addition, I tend to use more earthy, full-bodied aromas, preferring a stronger sillage.

This Blog

The aim of this blog is to serve as a repertoire of my thoughts and ideas on both film and perfumery. In an ideal world, I will be able to update it at least once a week, and I can then use it as a collection of my prior thoughts. This is an ideal reference tool for me, as my memory is rather shocking and a blog like this will help me to organise my thoughts cohesively.
